Dan Dawkins. Amy. Jenna. Toasters. Ralph and Minnie. Jacob's Bluff, OK. Jackson. Dark. Suicidal/homicidal ideations. Psychological thriller. Root for the bad guy. Murder. Revenge. Regret.Jackson is the alter ego of Dan Dawkins, who is a figment of Michael Robertson's imagination. I kept turning the page, hoping Dan would not take the awful turn he was headed for. That was the suspense. Even pretty much knowing the ending, the book was a page turner, good to the last drop, paragraph, sentence, word.
I was fortunate to receive a revised version with only a handful of editing blips. Good thing, because I am not very forgiving when editing is as bad as it sounded. Good job re-editing and revising.
There were some pretty powerful emotional scenes, which gave Dan his credibility. How can I agree with the bad guy that she is to blame? After all, she initiated the kiss.
Despite rooting for the villain, I enjoyed this book a lot. It was quick paced and woven tight. Characters were likeable, interesting, sympathetic and were built with strong emotions. I had trouble putting it down and was sad when it ended (though it would have been awful if it continued). The author followed through on all situations, including what happened to Jenna.
It's not a happy ending book, so if that's what you want, don't read this one. It's a good psychological thriller with enough action to keep it from being all up in the characters' heads. In the end, I don't see how Dan/Jackson could have done anything different to make this a better book. It's a fine line we walk, balancing our hope and our darkness.

Regret edition by Dan Dawkins Michael Robertson Jr Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews
This book was a very good read. It kept me reading from the beginning to the end as fast as I could go because I just had to find out how the story ended. I must say I really liked how it ended! Kudos to the author. This book is truly a page turner and it will keep you guessing until the end
Every so often I come across a good book that I just have to read twice. Not right away, but maybe some months later. This is one of them I am writing this review after my second reading.
I recommend this book.
This novel takes you on a completely unexpected ride! What starts out as a light hearted humorous tale, quickly delves into dark and twisted rage.. I was hoping the entire book had the upbeat comic retelling of life after a loved ones death, but this was written wonderfully! Completely engrossing considering something like this is possible and has happened to people. After the first two chapters, it's a totally different story, but a very good one that I'd recommend!
If you buy this book, I suggest that you block the next day or two out of your usual schedule. Once you get into the story, you are carried along like a canoe headed for the waterfall. You'll be inside the skin of a man who is going mad from guilt and grief. You know from the beginning that there can be no happy ending. And, yes, it's not pleasant as you approach the waterfall and know that there's no way to escape the inevitable.
It's true that some better editing would have been desirable. But the author writes in a style that makes you feel that the narrator is talking straight to you. It's truly gripping. And emotionally painful.
I bought this book prior to reading any reviews about it. While looking for an already purchased book on my kindle I came to this one. I went to and read the synopsis and reviews. I didn't hold out much hope for it, but started it anyways.... And, I read it in 2 days! It held my interest from the very first page.
It is written in the first person, like a journal and follows the journal's author as he progresses to insanity.
Yes, there were a lot of errors, but some people said the errors were so bad that it distracted from the book. I personally think that was a bit of an overstatement. Most of the errors were typo's such as "of" instead of "off", or grammar errors. Things like that. They were distracting for a second, and maybe made you read the sentence over again. In a way, it made it a little more realistic like you really were reading a personal manuscript that wasn't edited for errors. I'm one who can spot the tiniest mistake when reading, and at the same time make many mistakes when writing myself. Made even worse by the auto correct on my iPad.
Other people were really put off that the 2nd half of the book progressed to violence like it was a big surprise or something. Just reading the synopsis tells you that. It was no surprise, so why read this type of book, just too complain that it is what it is. And even though Dan aka Jackson turns to murder, it wasn't THAT graphic. I've certainly read hundreds of books that were way more violent and graphic. Just pick up any book by Patricia Cornwell, James Patterson, Tess Gerritson. This book wasn't near as horrific, gruesome or violent as any of the books I've read by those authors.
I thought the characters were well formed and you just really liked Ralph and Minnie.
What more can I say, I just thought it was an interesting fast paced read, and I enjoyed it enough to tell my husband about it. I definitely recommend this book.
